How to Manage Groups – Ukkera Instructor Dashboard

Organize your students into groups to manage content access, track collective progress, and simplify enrollment.

How to Manage Groups

Groups are a powerful way to manage multiple students at once. Whether you have a morning session, a physical center group, or a specific cohort, groups help you control content access and communication efficiently.

Prerequisites

  • Multiple students enrolled in a course.
  • A need to provide different content or schedules to different subsets of students.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Creating a New Group

To organize your course:

  1. Navigate to your course and select the Groups tab.
  2. Click the New Group button.
  3. Enter a Name for the group (e.g., "Cairo Center - Room 1").
  4. (Optional) Set an Auto-Enrollment rule if available to automatically add new students to this group.
  5. Save to create the group.

2. Adding Students to a Group

Once a group is created, you can populate it:

  1. From the Groups list, click the Students icon on the desired group.
  2. Search for students by name or email.
  3. Select the students you want to add and save.
  4. Alternatively, in the Student List, select multiple students and use the Bulk Action to assign them to a group.

3. Managing Group-Specific Content (Restricting Lectures)

One of the most powerful features is controlling what a group can see:

  1. In the Groups list, click on the Lectures (list) icon for a group.
  2. You will see the entire course content.
  3. You can Block or Unblock specific chapters or individual lectures for this entire group.
  4. This allows you to release content gradually (Drip Feed) to specific cohorts without affecting other students.
  5. Detailed instructions can be found in the Lecture Availability Guide.

4. Group Status and Activation

  • Toggle Status: Use the switch in the Groups list to activate or deactivate an entire group. Deactivating a group might restrict access for all its members depending on your settings.
  • Group Notifications: Send a single notification message that reaches every member of the group simultaneously.

Tips

  • Consistent Naming: Use clear naming conventions for your groups to easily identify them in drop-down menus across the dashboard.
  • Bulk Content Release: Instead of unlocking lectures for 100 students one-by-one, put them in a group and unlock the lecture for the group with one click.
  • Override Rules: Group-level lecture blocks usually override individual student settings, making group management the most efficient way to handle large classes.
